LA BALATA DEI TURCHI
This is one of the most beautiful and uncontaminated areas in Pantelleria.
It is an high slab of rock sloping into the sea surrounded by overhanging cliffs that reach the height of 300 metres.
Recent archaeological studies have found that the area was already frequented by man 7000 years ago for the extraction of obsidian found in the cliffs.
I"La Balata" was (and still is) also an excellent place to seek shelter during sudden storms for those sailing in the Mediterranean.
