THE CASTLE OF VENERE (VENUS)
The castle of Venus is of very ancient origin, it is said that the God Venere would take a milk bath in a well which can be found inside the castle walls.
The castle is built on an isolated cliff on the south-west side of the top of the mountain. In ancient times it was the base for a famous Mediterranean fertility cult.
The initial sanctuary and the later castle waere both of great importance, so much so that an ancient legend told by Diodoro Siculo (1st century A.C) talks of a bridge having been built here by Dedalo himself.
