THE SALT MUSEUM
The museum is of fairly recent construction. Professor
Francesca Pellegrino, whilst visiting a group of students became enchanted
with an old salt house neat the Chiusicella salt mine belonging to the
Culcasi family.
She proposed the creation of a museum to demonstrate
the old traditions of the salt mines. Thus, in 1986, the Salt Museum in
Nubia was founded.
The old house was renovated and furnished with the
typical tools of the salt maker: spades, sledge-hammers, baskets, ropes
and wheelbarrows.
The museum is in Nubia and can be reached by following
the 2km long road which connects Trapani with Nubia and which continues
all the way to Marsala. A cycle lane has been recently constructed along
this road.
